Day 2 in Beijing

The roads were closed going to the Great Wall because of Obama's visit, so we started out with an overview of Jinshan park, across the street from the Forbidden city. We climbed the stairs to the beautiful overview. You can really get a good vantage point of how large the area around Beijing. A little girl, about 2 years old ran up to Mike and yelled Baba (Daddy). She was very cute, picking up shovels full of snow and throwing them in the air.
We then went to see how the local people shop for food in the market and went to a cooking lesson in a cook's home in the hutong area. We learned to make dumplings (potstickers), sweet and sour radishes and stir fried noodles made from stratch. The we ate and ate and ate until we couldn't eat another dumpling.
A tour of the forbidden city was next and I think it was my favorite so far with the magnificent palace, the many courtyards with one more beautiful than the next. The wind really picked up in the afternoon, it felt really cold, probably about 20 degrees.
We ended the day with peking duck dinner and decided to skip the acrobat show because jet lag is catching up with us and we need to save our energy for the Great Wall tomorrow. Four days until Leilani Day! We can't wait!!!!
