We began to reflect today how much our lives have changed since that afternoon 2 months ago in Nanchang when a very vocal girl became our daughter forever. Three plus years of waiting, dreaming, expecting and planning all came down to this 18 1/2 pounds of spicy girl, who has turned out to be better than I could have ever imagined. In some ways it seems like yesterday and in others, it seems like she has always been a part of the family.
She has gained 2 pounds since we then, she enjoys standing on the scale, so we have no trouble checking her weight gain. You can see the difference in her cheeks for sure. We were remembering when we put on her pajamas that first night and saw just how thin she was. You could see all her ribs and her legs and arms were spindly. Now, she has chubby legs and little folds at her wrists. She has a good appetite and has learned to chew and swallow well. In November, she could only manage fruit puffs and soft foods. Now, she loves cheerios and can take bites from an apple. She has also learned to drink water from a sippy cup. She still enjoys her formula and has begun drinking a combination of formula and whole milk.
She is very active; her favorite toys are the laugh and learn that sing and count. She is not very interested in stuffed animals or soft dolls. She likes hard plastic toys, with a ride-on zebra, tea set and playhouse getting a lot of use.
I am getting ready to go back to work, about 2 weeks from now, and I am looking forward to seeing everyone and helping deliver babies, but I will miss Leilani terribly. I think she will be fine, but her mommy may not fair so well.
